Candidates should also have substantive experience with construction and development financing, loan participation arrangements, bond and other alternative financing and working/revolving lines of credit.   • Academic Health Center Counsel
  • The University of Minnesota’s Office of the General Counsel is seeking an Academic Health Center Counsel. The Academic Health Center Counsel (AHC Counsel) reports to the General Counsel of the University, and provides sophisticated legal support to the University’s Academic Health Center (AHC). The AHC comprises a complex and highly regulated environment involving research, teaching, and the provision of clinical services. The AHC Counsel participates in the management team of the AHC. The AHC Counsel will be expected to be familiar with regulatory and compliance issues related to health care, research, and education. The AHC Counsel will also be responsible for the legal aspects of the University’s relationships with UMPhysicians, the clinical practice corporation of the faculty physicians, and Fairview Health Services, the owner of the university hospital. The AHC Counsel is responsible for risk management, and the management of litigation arising out of the activities of health sciences students, particularly medical students and residents.
    Required qualifications are: a J.D. from an ABA accredited law school; approximately 15 years (or more) of related experience; and admission to and good standing in the State Bar of Minnesota, or eligiblity for prompt admission. The position requires excellent communication skills, and the ability to maintain relationships with a broad and diverse array of leaders, faculty, and administrators throughout the University and its AHC. Creative problem solving skills and sound legal judgment are also requirements for this position.
