Annual Bench & Bar Benefit
The benefit, held in the fall of each year, is the major fundraiser for the foundation. Half of the money raised at the benefit is given directly to Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services. The other half is awarded in grants to other law-related organizations. In 2012, the benefit raised nearly $60,000.

Charity Golf Tournament
The annual RCBF golf tournament is also a significant fundraiser for the foundation. The 2013 tournament raised over $16,000.

Member Donations
Generous donations from Ramsey County Bar Association members complement the funds raised by the foundation fundraisers.

Guidelines for Grants from Cy Pres Funds
In March 2011, the foundation received an order from Federal District Court Judge Richard Kyle, awarding the foundation $100,000 in cy pres funds. The order requires that the funds “be used for the general benefit of and advancement of women.” The foundation will disperse the funds over a period of four years. Each year, the foundation will award grants to organizations that meet the general grant guidelines listed above and will use the grant for the general benefit of and advancement of women. The maximum award to any organization will be $25,000.

Ramsey County Bar Foundation Law Student Scholarship
In the spring of 2014, the Ramsey County Bar Foundation will award up to $6,000 in a scholarship to a law student who:

• currently attends a Minnesota law school,
• is a member of a group traditionally under-represented in the legal profession (including race, sex, ethnicity, sexual orientation or disability),
• contributes meaningfully to diversity in his or her community,
• has a record of academic or professional achievement, and
• displays leadership qualities through past work experience, community involvement or student activities.

The Ramsey County Bar Association Diversity Committee will review applications and make a recommendation to the foundation. The scholarship will be presented at the association’s Annual Meeting on May 15, 2014. Interested applicants should submit a letter of interest, along with a resume, by February 14, 2014, to Cheryl Dalby at cheryl@ramseybar.org.
