Ramsey County Bar Association to Present Second Judicial District Pro Bono Award

Second Judicial District Court judges have selected Mark S. Genereux as the recipient of the 2017 Pro Bono Award. The award will be presented at the Ramsey County Bar Foundation Bench & Bar Benefit on November 4, 2017.

The Pro Bono Award is presented each to year to an attorney who has performed exceptional pro bono service for the benefit of residents of the Second Judicial District.

Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services (SMRLS) nominated Genereux for this year’s award. Genereux is a solo practitioner at Genereux Law Office in St. Paul. He has volunteered for SMRLS for the past 35 years. Genereux is a regular participant in the Tuesday Evening Clinic, representing clients in a variety of legal areas, including debt collection, consumer issues, adult guardianships, landlord/tenant and real property, personal injury, estate planning and probate, and income tax.

A SMRLS housing staff attorney, after serving with Genereux as co-counsel on a fair housing clam, said that his “wisdom from many years of pro bono work brings practical and effective advice to our clients in ways that are easy for the clients to understand.”

Over the past two years, Genereux has also served as an estate planning attorney at SMRLS’ Wills for Seniors clinics where volunteer attorneys draft wills, healthcare directives and financial powers of attorney. He initiated providing clients with estate planning forms to help them better understand the process.

According to SMRLS’ Volunteer Coordinator, Carol Bros, Genereux’s many years of volunteer attorney service has helped SMRLS continue its mission of helping provide access to justice for low-income clients.

The 42nd Annual Bench & Bar Benefit will be held at the InterContinental St. Paul Riverfront Hotel on Saturday, November 4. Proceeds of the benefit will be distributed to local legal organizations through the Ramsey County Bar Foundation. Registration for the event is available at ramseybar.org.
