Solo Small Firm Section: Good Ways Lawyers Can Deliver Bad News
October 24@8:30 am-10:00 am
Presenter: Melissa DeLay, Message Maven at TruPerception
Working in law is great when you’re winning cases and your employees are an industry dream team. But throw in a difficult situation—such as telling a client they lost or explaining the right processes to an employee who is constantly making critical mistakes—and even the most successful lawyers can be at risk of damaging their reputation and losing their influence.
Drawing from her book, The Truth About Scandal: The Everyday Guide to Navigating Business Crises, DeLay will show you how to overcome the most challenging communication situations including:
-How to deliver difficult news to clients and employees.
-How to say “no” to prospective clients who aren’t right for you.
-Tips for delivering messages, such as when to call, set an in-person meeting, or send a letter.
-Q&A period on real-life challenges.
-Introduction to “Copy Bibles,” aka power phrases you write and practice to use in a wide range of tough situations.
-Interactive discussion on word choice.
-Workshop time to begin creation of personalized Copy Bibles.
